Charlie and Tommy are absolutely wrong!! One bad husband’s prank disrupts a well-planned dinner by a party of spouses that may not regularly spend such sumptuous time together. Savoring their upcoming meal, they are told that their table is not available.
It’s about trust and mutual respect. The wives trust their husbands to stay off the AC police blotter and not abridge their vows. The wives in return expect the courtesy to share a fine meal closer to home.
It is “make goods” time for the husbands. Note plural, each of the “blood brothers” can pool and pay for a dinner for the offended wives at the same restaurant or at one of the wives’ choosing. Mr. Air Tight can broker the offer. Fellas add a magnum of champagne to numb the sting of your egregious collective judgment. (Think about what the men would have received if they had phoned in a magnum from AC instead of a cancellation.)
As for the joker, V-Day, Mother’s Day, and no doubt, an Anniversary are looming. They are excellent opportunities to express your unspoken regret. You are a disservice to gentlemen. Smarten up! Tell her.

Lighten up. Seriously. The boys haven’t come forward because a lynch mob awaits them! Was anyone hurt by the prank or simply inconvenienced? Maybe it wasn’t funny, but there is an awful lot of self-righteous huffing and puffing going on here.

That wasn’t funny at all- very mean, actually. MAYBE it wouldn’t have been quite as bad if he realized that his “joke” wasn’t funny right away and apologized to everyone. I wonder if he even realizes now what he has done to their friendships? If he was a high school girl and did this to someone, he definately would be a “mean girl”!

I don’t think it is funny at all. It sounds like the guy was drunk and being a baby because he didn’t want the wives to get a night out.

There is a difference between a joke and jerk.

Well, I told the males in my house about this prank tonight to get their reaction. Before everyone got distracted by the Famous Hockey Fights show on TV, Hugh immediately denounced the prank, saying “That’s not funny!” Although only 14, he has a very high EQ and is more mature than I am, so I totally respect his opinion.

Ok, here’s my 2 cents on pranks:
1. Sending a male stripper/clown/singing telegram to serenade the ladies at the restaurant: Embarrasing, but potentially funny in an outrageous kind of way.
2. Prank calling the ladies at the restaurant: Annoying, but potentially funny in an eye-rolling kind of way.
3. Cancelling the reservation: Uh, not funny, just mean, in a “I really want to get back at you for _____by ruining your night” kind of way.

What would be the motivation behind such a prank? Hmm…..

This Abby thinks it is indeed malicious. Even if there’s some sort of history of this kind of prank — with ALL the participants, Or could the restaurant have messed up?

And there’s the difference between men and women. I don’t think a cancelled tee time in AC, for example, would have been greeted with laughing off and “good one.”
What bothers me more than the prank (the prankster may not have known that it would be any more than a minor inconvenience–ie, the table would be gone, the restaurant small, etc.–doesn’t sound like a guy who would be aware of this kind of nuance) is the closing ranks around the prankster. That it did turn in to a big deal calls for an apology, not a Band of Brothers silence. That’s what really changes it for me.
If I were in the same situation, I wouldn’t stop being friends with these people but I would certainly think twice before going ahead with grand plans with them. And good luck to the wives on getting their time away…I’ll be very interested to hear if it every happens!

You obviously have no idea of what makes men tick. Simple pranks such as this one are very normal for males, and if the prank were reversed, the result would be the men laughing it off and saying “good one . . .”

As long as it was done in fun, and not with malice aforethought, this should be forgotten and the frieds should go on their merry way.

People in general need to lighten up and accept that they can sometime be the subject of a harmless prank.
