My boys are 4, 7 and 9. All three of them played ball this year. My husband also managed the 7 and 9 year old's team. That was quite the experience. Parents of 7,8 and 9 yr old's are unbelievable. They can be crueler than kids. By the time the season was halfway over I had to sit by myself because all they did was complain. And my husband is the most easy going person you'd ever want to meet. And if that wasn't enough punishment for him he is "helping" coach my 7yr olds All Star team. So I have another whole month of baseball.

My son's team was eliminated last week, and yes we were secretly smiling. Of course we wouldn't sign up for the summer league...and then found ourselves begging the league to allow our son to play, the day after "tryouts!" We all missed baseball! So, here we are watching the weather forecasts again to see if tonight's game will be played!

Momkat, great story! I love the image of the rag-tag church league, and the phrase "your personal kid."

My two boys totally refused to play in any organized team at all during the school year, mainly because they refused to be organized at anything. Instead, every summer we would sit on a grassy elementary school field and watch while they played softball with a rag-tag church team, loosely affiliated with about four or five other equally loosely organized church teams. We didn

Well - this time I went with a very healthy dinner - vanilla yogurt with some old blueberries, grapes and bananas thrown in (a fruit salad). I guess the meal wasn't enough because (sadly) the White Sox lost this time around. Maybe I should have stuck with the granola bar!! As much as I wanted them to finish the season - it was sad to see them lose, especially when you see how upset they are even though they played a great game. It was a pleasure spending the season with you, Emily, and I promise to read on!!

Malcolm's final game was played (and lost) last Friday - our 21st anniversary. We smuggled refreshing mixed drinks in our straw-topped sports cups, and when Chris gallantly offered to fetch some fine food from the snack bar, I requested fish. Swedish fish. Then my anniversary celebration was topped off by working IN the snack bar for the final hour (which I offered to do to get out of watching Malcolm pitch, which gives me agita), serving kids PowerAde (blue is the most popular) and Bubble Gum flavored water ice. From the kids' perspective, they're eating very well on baseball night.
