And I have to say, one of my all-time-favorite essays when I was in admissions was a girl who was trying to finish the Marine Corps Marathon in a cold downpour, ready to quit 8 miles from the end, when her mom flashed out of the crowd on a bike and pedaled beside her for seven miles, then bikesprinted ahead to take pictures at the finish line. I still get teary when I think of it. So no, you don't need to bring your kids, but they might appreciate it if you come for them when it's their turn! My kids have watched me finish three sprint triathlons since last year, and I cheered proudly as Sylvie did her first kids tri on Saturday. I do this partly to show them that they can do it, too. Had I seen my mom do stuff like this from an early age, I suspect I would have found my inner athlete much sooner. Seeing their excited little faces waiting gives me the boost to actually make it across the finish line...but carry them? NFW!! I have to disagree, Em, but it’s completely a personal thing.
