Jeez. I thought my wife was bad. Five years ago when my son was seven, I spent two weeks teaching him how to tie his shoes. Within a week, my wife went out and bought him new sneakers--VELCRO sneakers. I think this is a common, albeit wrongheaded scheme to keep kids from leaving for college. Now if I could just teach him how to ride a bike...

OH Mah GAH!!!

I JUST realized the other day that my seven year old still hasn't mastered shoe tying. He sort of had it for a while there, but it's been merrells and velcro since then and holy crap. I'm now waiting for Child and Youth Svcs to come and get me (at least I'll have someone fun to talk to in Parent Jail).

Damn, woman, pick your battles! My 11 year old doesn't know how to tie his shoes, and I'm perfectly fine with that -- I'd settle for him learning to turn the light off when he leaves the room. ; )

(Thus speaks the woman who just ordered new Velcro sneaks from Endless.com for her 11 year old.)
