I am so relieved to hear someone say this…not the BB gun stuff, but the F bomb. I will deny this if you ask me in public (especially if any of my inlaws are around), but twice in the last six months I have unholstered the F bomb and used it as the verbal BB in the butt of my seven year old. And it did what the BB would do, just like you said, got his attention and stunned him into ceasing and desisting his entirely shitty behavior in the moment.

I’ve felt bad about this since the first incident, and then more so since the second incident (flat learning curve), but now I feel a bit better about it! Strength (and safety) in numbers!

I would hate to be judged for how I interact with my kids at my worst, most frustrated moments, as opposed to the other 50% of the time.

The comedian Louis CK has a routine about how he never judges other parents he sees yelling at their kids, because, as a parent, he now knows that the kids had it coming. I’d provide a link, but he works *real* blue. You can find it on YouTube, at the end of a segment entitled “Why?”.

I laughed when I saw you take this on. The article I read had the guy saying, “The second I did it, I knew it was totally stupid and I was sorry.” Boy, if that doesn’t describe about eight parenting moments a day for me (the stupid and sorry part, not the BB part) I don’t know what does.

I’m just hoping the guy with the BB gun didn’t live in a glass house, because that would be very impractical. My kids still remember the first time they heard my husband use the F bomb. Yes, it’s a powerful weapon.
