I was born in November and (whadya know) Fall is my favorite season. But I do like not having to nag the kids about homework, the longer days, and sitting out by the fire pit (when its not 1000 degrees) with a drink at night in the summer. And Back to School inevitably comes with the same commentary, "Summer went so fast!"

So much for my theory. Perhaps you are the exception who proves the rule. I can well understand how the SuperBowl would be an most unwelcome intruder on a child's birthday!

I was born in the dead of winter, right around Superbowl Sunday. My childhood birthday parties were always in the backdrop as my parents always put the StupidBowl on! I hate football just as much as I hate winter! I love this weather! (and I say that now, since my A/C has finally been repaired!)

Great lists, y'all. Thank you for the reminders of all the beauty of hot days and wet pavement...gardening in nightgowns and crunching on ice...summer camps and no school lunches to pack. But you, poor Elizabeth, pregnant and in the Sun Belt...yikes. I hope things cool off quickly in September and your little baby is able to wear all those adorable size zero outfits that are no doubt awaiting her.

I love it when the pool is warm enough to not shock the system when I get in.
I love watching a thunderstorm roll past and the smell of the pavement when the rain first comes.
I love the excuse to eat popsicles quickly.
I love the summer camp my boys go to and the "simpler" pleasures of the daily themes (Watermelon Day, Water Ice Day, Counselor Hunt Day).
Beaches. Boardwalks. Seagulls. Outdoor showers.
Peaches.
And, of course, air conditioning.
I do think summers are getting worse. Whether it's true climate change or just a bad string of weather patterns, I don't know or care, but summers are not the same as they used to be.

I wish I could remind you, Jennifer, but I can't. At 35 weeks pregnant, in what has been an unusually hot and humid summer in the Southwest, I am just miserable. I can't WAIT for August 31, for more reasons than one. I'm wondering, now, if my daughter will be programmed to love summer, too.

Warm evenings when you can entertain outside, in the garden, under the stars, is what I love about Summer. Going out early and gardening in your nightgown ;o). Last night I cried, 'I can't make dinner, this soul sucking heat has me beat'...so watermelon and PBJ's were our repast. No dinning under the stars in the garden, just a sulky retreat to the only thing I could think to make and every man for himself.

The best part of summer? Sleeping in! Although I shouldn't.

I agree, this has been the worst summer ever because of the heat. We are blessed to have air conditioning, but I miss the open windows and the summer breeze. It's just like winter being shut in the house.

Best part of summer? A slower schedule. I hate these heat waves too, especially since this year I have no AC. The other night it was 92 degrees in my kitchen! However, I don't have to nag anyone about homework, I have no night meetings to attend, and--because I work for a school district--I get to sleep past 5:00 every morning. I am in no rush for September. I will keep sucking on my ice chips, keep my fans blowing, and savor these long summer days.
