I remember feeling disappointed about the casting of Bridges of Madison County. I thought Meryl Streep and Clint Eatwood were way too old to play the leads. It was such a passionate story and I couldn't picture these two together despite their credentials and acting prowess. I never saw the film.

I remember being SO disappointed in the movie version of The House of Spirits...it's one of my favorite books of all time, and the casting was just weird. Not even in an alternate reality does Meryl Streep seem Chilean. Totally odd. My other pet peeve is when directors cast Latino people as Italian...as though dark hair is the only thing that matters.

John Wayne as Genghis Khan in "The Conquerer" gets my vote...cast by Howard Hughes at the height of his madness. (Footnote: shot in the Utah desert not far from an atomic bomb testing area, all of the leads, including 'the Duke' and an unusually high percentage of the crew, died of cancer. So it "bombed" in many ways.)

I was actually just thinking of Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's the other day. I'll bet this Airbender thing triggered that. I've always wondered how such an icon of a movie could apparently be forgiven of such horrible casting. Rose-colored glasses, I guess.
