Becky, yes, the TV and lamp have an Eames Era Chic vibe about them. And Tracie, I'm glad to hear you had the courage of your convictions and declined to stay in the NC version of the Del-Ray even when desperately wanting out of the car. I must confess that Chris and I used to actually seek out the cheapest possible motels on long-ago road trips, allegedly to stay there "ironically" as urban hipsters, but in truth because we were extremely poor. Even worse, we stayed in many a room just like this one. I'm just glad we did so before those TV documentary shows started shining "blue lights" on hotel bedspreads to reveal the hidden stains lurking there. Double shudder.

I would never trust a place with tile walls - looks like you could go in and hose the place down (easy concealment of crime-scene evidence)?

It's a long story, but this looks very much like a place my family came upon in the middle of one hellish night (OK - it was probably only about 10pm, but it sure as heck felt like the middle of the night) while on "vacation" in the mountains of North Carolina with: 1) twisty, narrow mountain roads, 2)rain, 3)heavy fog, 4)one car-sick 8 year old, 5) one screaming 4 year old who needed a bathroom NOW, 6) one direction-deprived husband in the pre-GPS days, and 7) one not-so-calm mommy who had HAD IT with just about everybody in that car. We actually stopped and went in a room to inspect it, we were so driven with desperation. It was so bad we bravely got back into that car and drove until we were out of North Carolina completely.

I have to confess..I kinda like that little white t.v. and I'd sell that lamp..it's ugly retro..but someone would like it. Cut phone lines? Ummm....oh no. Now that I look closer at that phone I think the thing is fake..no lines to cut.

So nice when a present given hits the mark and is still remembered (so positively as opposed to the opposite!) many years later.

Bet there's a website somewhere that collects these treasures like your mom's!

The tile walls are like an inviting sanitorium. Pump me with thorazine until the bedspread doesn't bother me any more.

Yes, thank heavens there's a phone! But how do you know the line hasn't been cut? And I am sure those chenille spreads are the cheapest possible. Definitely not Cabin Craft.

I'm strangely comforted by that black phone...like I could call for help if I needed too. I don't think this was the message they wanted to get across! Do you suppose those chenille bedspreads are that icky scratchy polyester kind? That stuff gives me the shivers. I didn't know about this book of postcards. Now I'm going to check it out. Thanks for sharing this one from your Mom's collection.
