Hugh has been scooped up and taken off to the beach with various friends’ families three times this summer. It’s a great treat for him and we are so grateful to the other families for including our child in their vacations. Full of energy and curiosity, Hugh is a natural beach lover – a tireless skimboarder, boogie boarder, arcade-goer, swimmer, fisherman, football-and-Frisbee tosser, and sand castle builder. Since I’m not witnessing him in the sand this year, here are shots from 4 years ago at the Outer Banks in NC.

The three brothers together, grudgingly posed.

Peace has reigned in our home since Monday, with the absence of one of the two main combatants. But now that Hugh has been gone for three nights, Malcolm in particular is starting to really miss his roommate.

Hugh will be home today.

And on Saturday we’ll embark on an 8-hour road trip to the Thousand Islands in upstate NY, which should provide more than enough family togetherness to hold us for awhile. I’ll report back next Wednesday, and Emily will provide post-op commentary and other posts in my absence.
